YELLOW PALE MAIDEN Sisyrinchium chilense

The Yellow Pale Maiden is smaller than the Pale Maiden, and is quite rare on East Falklands although it is more widespread on the West. It's delicate head is a single flower and is borne on a sturdy stem. The back of the petals have reddish striped markings. Preferred habitats are whitegrass, coastal greens and heathland.
Native and widespread on West Falkland, and also recorded on East Falkland at Darwin, Saladero and Stanley. Found in acid grassland, dwarf shrub heath, improved grass land, built-up areas and gardens. Occasionally in fern beds and fachine scrub.
This plant is legally protected. It is an offence to deliberately pick, collect, cut, uproot or destroy a protected wild plant.
